After college, Bose passed the Indian Civil Service exams and was on his way to work for the British government. However, his patriotism and desire for independence drove him to resign and join the Indian National Congress.

Involvement in Indian National Congress

Bose quickly rose through the Indian National Congress ranks, eventually becoming President of the All India Youth Congress and Secretary of the Bengal State Congress. He was well-known for his stirring speeches and commanding leadership.

Formation of the Indian National Army

Despite his disagreements with the Congress, Bose persisted in his efforts to achieve India’s independence. In 1942, he founded the Indian National Army with the goal of liberating India from British rule through armed struggle.

Bose tirelessly worked to build the army and eventually led it in battles against the British. Despite numerous obstacles, Bose and the Indian National Army were able to seize control of parts of northeast India and establish the Azad Hind provisional government.
